Note by John. I spent four weeks in hospital in January and February 2012 following a heart attack, and everything posted subsequently has been made possible by the lady on duty at Springfields pharmacy in Harpenden, who, having heard Sue's reasons for wanting to buy an inhaler for me, strongly advised calling for an ambulance, and then by the successive efforts of the East of England ambulance service in arriving promptly and diagnosing the problem, of the A&E department at Luton and Dunstable hospital in stabilising the situation during a long and demanding Saturday morning and afternoon, and of the consultants and staff at Harefield and Hillingdon in dealing both with the basic problem and with some awkward complications. Nor should we forget the role of the British National Health Service, which meant that I paid for all this through my taxes when I was earning good money, instead of having the bills sprung on me when living on pension and savings.
